Welcome to St. Oswald's Church Arncliffe

The first stone church was built in the early 12th century. The patrons of the church were the De Arches and they were the lords of Arncliffe under the Percys. Then the patronage passed to the Percys an one of them, the second Earl of Northumberland passes the patronage to University College, Oxford in 1442.

In about 1500 the old church was pulled down and a new one was built, this time with a tower.

in 1796 everything except the tower was pulled down. A chancel was built on the site of the 16th century one, and the roof was opened up to show the timbers. In 1894 patronage passed to William Shuffrey who was vicar of Arncliffe and Hallton Gill.

St. Oswald's church is built beside the River Skirfare.

The lych gate was given by Canon Shuffrey in 1931

There are some lovely stained glass windows.

Most of the stained glass windows are Victorian. The scenes include St. Michael, patron saint of Hubberholme and St. Oswald, patron saint of Arncliffe.

Other memorial windows commemorate the Boyd and Myers families.
